Iconic swimwear: meet Versace’s greatest hits

Share

Synonymous with la dolce vita, Versace’s mood-boosting maximalism is made for the summer months. Its swimwear — celebrated for bold cuts, extravagant touches and a welcome dose of signature graphics — is a fail-safe when it comes to vacation dressing. From strategic cutouts to the latest trending prints, there’s an art to choosing the style that’s right for you. Here, we uncover the four key styles to consider, to make your next poolside getaway an unforgettable one.

The sleek cutout

Cutout designs have been trending for a couple of seasons, as designers lean into our collective mood for playfully experimenting with showing more skin. It’s a detail that’s also one of Versace’s most-loved design tropes, too, and is seen in many iconic runway looks worn by the likes of Naomi Campbell and Jennifer Lopez (in *that* green dress). In swimwear, strategically placed cutouts create a clean, contemporary shape and the house serves up many fresh takes this season, from asymmetric fronts to open backs. The Versace Medusa Head swimsuit in timeless black is a key callout and lends itself to both poolside and evening styling, when paired with skirts and statement jewelry.

The Butterflies bikini

The butterfly motif reigned supreme in the 2000s and saw a resurgence in popularity with the revival of Y2K style last year (for which we have the TV series ‘Euphoria’ to thank). This season, Donatella Versace gives it a 2023 rework via the brand’s latest hype collection, La Vacanza, co-designed with Dua Lipa. Debuted in May at Cannes Film Festival, the collaboration’s launch was a star-studded event with models Precious Lee, Malika Louback, Stella Maxwell, Camille Chifflot and more seen wearing the print for the first time. In swimwear, the Versace Butterflies bikini — available with a pink or black base — is most definitely a style to consider this season.

The signature Greca graphic

The Greca Key motif has been an unmistakable brand code since Gianni Versace’s fall/winter 1988 collection. Inspired by the family’s hometown in Calabria, southern Italy, alongside its vast ancient Greek heritage, the geometric design continues to be as relevant now as it was then. The Greca Key is incorporated into Versace’s classic swimwear cuts each and every season. This cobalt-blue swimsuit, detailed with wide Greca Key shoulder straps, is a highlight of the collection and comes in myriad colorways on FARFETCH, too.

The Versace monogram

Versace fans: wear your heart on your chest — and the rest of your look, too — with the house’s splashy monogram graphics. This summer, the label’s bold branding translates into getaway essentials, and comes reimagined by Donatella and Dua for La Vacanza in tonal toweling (you may have seen the campaign on your IG feed). Available as separates to allow for a mix-and-match approach to vacation dressing, the Versace Monogram triangle bikini comes in black and pink this season. When it comes to styling, the adjustable triangle bikini top can be paired with relaxed wide-leg pants and minimalist gold jewelry with a sundowner at the beach bar.

Versace swimsuits: need-to-know size and fit details

SIZING: Versace’s swimwear ranges from sizes 1 to 5, which equates to sizes 32 to 40 in Italian measurements.

FIT: The bikinis feature drawstrings so you can tailor each piece to your body shape. It’s also worth noting that all Versace swimwear is made with stretch for some give when worn.

CARE: Rinse your swimsuit after going in a pool or in the sea. We recommend always washing in cold water to prevent the colors fading.
