Continuing on our mission to help you find #TheOne SS17 item, we’ve been catching up with Erika Fox, the Irish red-headed beauty behind Retro Flame blog. Captivated by her fiery ambition and understated style, we find out what #TheOne item would be for her and how moving from the countryside of Ireland to the big city of New York has influenced her style in more ways than she’d thought.
In 3 words, how would you describe your style?
‘Minimalistic, Feminine, Sleek’
Which colors and patterns do you wear the most?
‘I have to admit, since moving to New York 3 years ago, the main colour in my wardrobe is now black. It never fails me here - whatever the season! Seeing as I'm a redhead, I also love to wear blues, deep greens and white. My favourite print/pattern is pinstripe.’
What is your favorite designer brand and why?
‘If I could wear one designer brand forever more it would have to be Saint Laurent. EVERYTHING they do is perfection. Each piece is timeless but at the same time will always ensure you will steal the show when wearing it. I love that.’
What was your first designer purchase?
‘My first designer purchase was a pair of Celine 'Caty' Sunglasses and they are something I will definitely have forever. They were a treat to myself at the end of my first year in NYC and I'll never forget walking into the store on Madison Avenue to buy them. It’s still such a proud moment for me and I still wear them every single week. Your first designer purchase is always a special one.’
Do you think moving to NYC from Ireland has influenced your style?
‘110%! Since making the move to NYC, my style has definitely become a lot more minimalistic. I've learned to invest in better quality, versatile pieces that will work for more than just one outfit (mainly due to the tiny Manhattan wardrobe spaces!). I actually really like how New York has influenced my style. I definitely put a lot more thought into my purchases now which I think is a good thing. I want to always open up my wardorbe and love every single piece in there!’
Which trends do you want to invest in for SS17?
‘I definitely want to get a little more playful with my sunglass collection and add in more color (maybe even some pastels). I also really want to invest into more pieces with statement sleeves, I’m LOVING this trend at the moment along with power shoulders.’
What would your #TheOne luxury purchase from Farfetch be?
‘Right now, a Saint Laurent Sac de Jour is top of my list! It's one of the most classic and timeless bags out there and one I would have for a very long time.’
Where would you showcase it in NYC?
‘Honestly, I can't think of a bag more suited to NYC. When I used to work full-time here (before going full-time with Retro Flame) one of the women in my office had this bag and every time I saw her, I promised myself I would eventually have it too. She was always dressed to kill and the bag was the perfect touch to every single outfit. In New York, it's all about making a statement in the most subtle ways possible and this bag would undoubtedly fit the bill.’
