Summer In NYC With Fashion Blogger Krystal Bick

Share

For most people the summer is all about escaping the city and exploring the white sandy beaches of somewhere far away. However, if you don’t have the chance to jet off somewhere exotic this season, don’t be put off as there’s a lot more to our favourite cities than overcrowded metros! We’ve caught up with one of New York’s most fashionable bloggers Krystal Bick to uncover some of her favorite places to spend the summer in NYC.

What are your top three style essentials for the summer?

I would never be able to survive a NYC summer without: A few new summer sundresses to add to the rotation, a chic little folding fan (for when you're stuck on the subway and the AC is broken) and a wide brim hat.

What makes summer in New York City different to anywhere else in the world?

Summer in NYC is unique in the sense that the city truly feels like your best friend, urging you to stay out all day. From parks to outdoor festivals, museums to long bike rides along the Hudson River, some of my best summer memories in this city are the days where I lose track of time on purpose, because there's always some new, different and fun going on around every corner.

Which designer brands would you say win summer in NYC?

Zimmermann, Self-Portrait, Caroline Constas and Johanna Ortiz. All four span the range of cool fashion girl, whether she's running out to brunch with girlfriends or heading out for a big date night.

What is your top summer evening wear tips?

I love that evening flats are becoming a thing. I'm looking forward to rocking some of my barely there slip dresses with a pair of satin slides or pearl embellished loafers. Plus, it means you can skip the cab and enjoy a beautiful evening walk around the city!

What is your favorite NYC neighbourhood to visit in the summer?

Williamsburg in Brooklyn. There are so many outdoor concerts, festivals and distilleries over there, it's easy to spend the entire day roaming around and getting lost.

You’re going for a picnic, what would you pack and where would you go?

It's an obvious one, but for good reason: Central Park! But I would skip Sheep's Meadow and go straight for the lawn overlooking Belvedere Castle. What's in my bag? An assortment of meat and cheese from Murray's Cheese Shop and some salad from Nourish.

You have a day off, how would you spend the perfect summer’s day?

I'd start with an early run along the Hudson River, followed by brunch at Buvette with a few girlfriends. I'd then take my dog, Elvis, to Washington Square Park so he can run around and I can stick my nose in a book for a few hours. I'm currently reading The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher and I love it so far. Then I'd head uptown to get lost in the Guggenheim Museum, until eventually ending the day at the Paris Theater near the Plaza for a late night summer flick.
