Technical streetwear
The segmented colours of the Waverunner (which dropped on March 17 but you knew that already, right?) really lend themselves to technical streetwear. The Yeezy 700s add subtle pops of colour to the black and white palette, while the straps break up any silhouette and add an edgy technical element. Brands like Ben Taverniti’s Unravel Project, Unconditional and Julius should make up your wishlist.
Clash it
Maybe it’s a product of political unrest, social upheaval, or just plain boredom, but clashing patterns, prints and whatever else you can get your hands on feels very 2018. Try bookending the whole gestalt with a cheeky pair of red and white technical runners. Colour coordination? Not one bit - and yet the sum of all these individual parts really adds up.
Tailoring
Wearing sneakers with a suit is by no means a revelation but before now, the kicks of choice have always been of the leather tennis pump persuasion (say, Common Projects). This season the duty of subverting the suit’s inherent formality is falling on the running sneaker. Like cheesecake, the ingredients of this look shouldn’t work together and yet the proof is clearly in the pudding.
Colour Coordinate
If you’re wearing anything other than a pair of running shorts and technical vest, then your running sneakers are - by design - going to clash. That’s the point. Yet that doesn’t mean you can’t pull colours from them to coordinate with other elements of your look. A bold integration of orange, with green as a backdrop will show you know what’s what when it comes to colour synergy.
