WORDS BY ALEXANDRA RHODES
For Chloé and Parris Gordon, fashion is very much a family affair. The Canadian sisters, who launched their line of dramatic shapes with a tomboy edge in 2013, chose the name Beaufille (handsome girl) as ‘it speaks to [their] dynamic as sisters, combining opposing elements to create a unique harmony.’ They also cite their mother, a fine artist, as the inspiration behind their coveted designs. So scroll down and let’s get acquainted…
Describe your label’s aesthetic in 3 words…
‘Effortless, minimal, romantic.’
What’s the inspiration behind your latest collection?
‘We thought a lot about the idea of perception - transforming common fabrics by using high-end techniques on them, and the idea of reinterpretation through new materials and colours.’
We touched on it earlier, but tell us about the name Beaufille...
‘Beaufille translates to ‘handsome girl’. The name embodies the brand’s ethos of combining masculine and feminine, hard and soft. It also describes the type of girl we are designing for.’
What’s it like working with your sister?
‘We are lucky to have had a very close relationship growing up - it's paved the way for our business partnership, and creative collaboration. We have the same taste level, as well as an innate sense of trust in each other.’
If you were only allowed to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Parris: ‘Blue Levi’s, a white T-shirt and pointy black Chelsea boots.’
Chloe: ‘Anything black!’
If Beaufille were a person, who would it be?
‘Our mom.’
Who do you follow on Instagram and why?
Parris: ‘I love following tribute accounts from my favourite decades style wise such as @60s_world @seventiees @woodstockings @70sbabes @simplybobdylan @simplicitycity.’
Chloe: ‘I also love looking at old images of fashion, art, and design – I can always find inspiration on @sculpting__in_time and @she_comes_in_technicolour. I recently have become interested in interiors and this @twentysixcollective has a great mix of old and new.’
