Calvin Klein's Canadian Tuxedo is making us see double (denim)

Share

We’re seeing double (denim) this season…

WORDS BY ALEXANDRA RHODES

Ah, that great fashion divider - the Canadian Tuxedo. But whether you’re for or against, you won’t be able to escape it for SS18. And if you weren’t a fan before, we think Raf Simons might just change your mind…

Fun fact, despite its moniker, the Canadian tuxedo is in fact an American invention. Rumour has it, back in 1951 Bing Crosby was turned away from a hotel in Canada because he was dressed in top-to-toe denim. When Levi Strauss and Co. got wind of the story, they created a tuxedo jean jacket especially for him, so he’d never have any trouble again.

This season, we’ll be taking cues from Raf’s obsession with cowboy style at Calvin Klein, and wearing ours buttoned-up over a polo neck and styled with cowboy boots.
