Positively FARFETCH

What is Positively Farfetch?

Positively Farfetch is our broader mission to become the global platform for good in luxury fashion – empowering everyone we work with to think, act and choose positively. We want to inspire you to make positive choices that consider the impacts on the environment, society and animal welfare. To do so, we not only champion the brands and products that are putting sustainable issues at the heart of how fashion is created, but also offer services, like Farfetch Second Life, to help reduce waste and extend the life of your favourite pieces. You’ll start seeing Positively Farfetch appear as we add more brands, products and services that help make a positive difference. Find out more about our mission here.

What is Positively Conscious?

Positively Conscious is how we identify which products have been created with sustainability in mind. The Conscious Edits for Women, Men and Kids, the Positively Conscious labels and information included within product descriptions are there to help you make informed decisions about your purchases.

How do we select brands and products to be labelled Positively Conscious?

We’ve teamed up with Good On You, an independent agency that rates the sustainability of brands across three areas: environment, social and animal welfare. Large brands need to score a minimum of four out of five on Good On You’s rating system to qualify; small brands three out of five. When a brand qualifies, all of its products will automatically be labelled as Positively Conscious.

If a brand does not qualify, some of its individual products may still be able to, if they pass the following criteria:

First, if more than 50% of the product is made from eco-friendly materials. In line with Good On You, the materials we count as eco-friendly are either organic (these may be cotton, linen, hemp, silk, wool) recycled (including polyester, wool, cotton, leather, nylon, paper, polyamide), or those recognised as meeting independent standards such as linen, tencel and ramie.

Second, if the product is certified by reputable organisations or initiatives such as Fairtrade, Fairmined, Climate Neutral or Forest Stewardship Council.

Last, if the product is pre-owned. Extending the useful life of these pieces means everybody wins, the planet included. You can shop our edit of pre-owned pieces here.

Who is Good On You?

Good On You is the world’s leading source for fashion brand sustainability ratings. Their app and tools are designed to inspire people to make more conscious shopping choices and it is widely recognised for its work in assessing brand’s impacts on both people and the planet. The Good On You rating system considers each brand’s policies and practices on the treatment of workers, animal welfare and the use of resources, such as energy, water and chemicals. The ratings are based on publicly available information including industry standards, certifications and a brand’s own reporting. For a brand to score well, they must be transparent about their progress on these issues. Find out more about the Good on You rating system here.

What does it mean if a product isn’t labelled Positively Conscious?

This just means that it doesn’t meet our Positively Farfetch standards – they’re deliberately high, so not all our pieces will be assigned this label.

What is Farfetch Second Life?

Farfetch Second Life is a new service that enables you to sell your designer handbags, giving them a second lease of life in exchange for credit to fund future purchases on Farfetch. We are currently piloting it in selected countries and hope to include more regions and product categories soon. Watch this space - it's all part of our Positively Farfetch mission.

What about packaging and transportation?

We’re taking positive steps to reduce the impact that our packaging and delivery methods have on the environment, without compromising the condition of your order when you receive it. How? We've adopted lighter packaging that is fully Forest Stewardship Council certified (the gold-standard in sustainable forestry). It's made from cardboard, and can be easily recycled. When you're ready to place your order, we find the Farfetch partner closest to you with stock, to ship it from. This not only reduces the carbon footprint of your order, but also means you get it quicker.

How can I get involved?

We’re always on the lookout for brands who think positively and have the same mission as us to achieve more sustainable luxury fashion. If there’s a brand we may have missed, we want to hear about them! Get in touch today.
